EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA WASHINGTON, DC FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, 23 July 1995: Contact: Ali E. Lejlic
PRESIDENT IZETBEGOVIC WRITES TO PRESIDENT CLINTON ON SERB ONSLAUGHT AGAINST BIHAC, CALLS FOR AIR STRIKES:
The President of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegovic, today forwarded a letter to the President of the United States, Bill Clinton, calling for action to halt the brutal assault against the so-called UN safe area of Bihac. The text of the letter follows:
Dear Mr. President:
In the course of this day, the armed aggressors (Karadzic's Serbs, so-called Krajina Serbs from Croatia and special forces from the so-called Yugoslavia) attacked the "safe area" of Bihac with over one hundred tanks and more than 20,000 troops. Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee towards the interior of the enclave. As this is the most ferocious offensive ever mounted against Bihac, there is an increasing danger that thousands of civilians might be massacred. We urge you to use your authority and to have NATO airpower intervene immediately. The situation demands a reaction today, since tomorrow may be too late. Please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration.
